North Shore Vein Centre
Welcome to North Shore Vein Centre
A common misconception is that varicose veins are primarily cosmetic, when in fact; damaged or diseased veins often get worse over time and cause disabling symptoms and complications. That’s why it is imperative to seek out a doctor that is not only qualified to manage vein disease, but also has a thorough understanding of the interaction between the leg veins and the heart.
Although heredity is the primary contributing factor causing varicose veins, other issues may also be involved, including: pregnancy, obesity, hormone medication, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, standing for long periods of time, crossing legs upon sitting, traumatic leg injuries or history of blood clots (DVT). Typical symptoms of venous disorders include:
- Bulging leg veins and/or discoloration of lower legs
- Heaviness, aching, pain and/or leg fatigue
- Itching or Burning or swelling of the legs
- Painful ulcerations near the ankles
- Restless Leg Syndrome
Although heredity is frequently a contributor to the development of varicose veins or other venous disorders, certain changes in lifestyle may have a positive effect on helping to control existing symptoms and may even prevent others from developing. Such changes include:
- Elevation of the legs whenever possible
- Managing weight and blood pressure
- Regular exercise, especially those that work on the legs like running or walking
- Wearing compression stockings when standing for long periods of time
Why suffer through the pain and embarrassment of varicose veins any longer when there are variousminimally or non-invasive options available? The treatments of venous disorders are often covered by insurance, and patients are typically up and around the same day.
Visit the Services section of this website to learn more about the different treatment options that are available to you. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a patient with our practice, please call the office at (773) 774-5020 to schedule your evaluation.
